Job Description Deliver a sequence of individualized tutorials addressing the Communication and Literacy portion of the Mass. Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL). This includes the following: assessment of students' writing and reading skills; gathering and developing materials to aid in teaching of test-taking skills, reading comprehension (plus vocabulary), and all parts of the writing exam, (grammar, mechanics, summary and argument essay composition). Tutors must develop an individual plan for each student, based on his/her needs and past experience with the test; develop a timeline and set goals for a period of study (typically a month to a full semester); develop strategies for addressing the components of both tests for second language learners or those with learning differences; fully document work with each student and track progress.

Applicants must have successfully completed the C & L portion of MTEL with high descriptive scores in all parts of the test. Tutoring or teaching experience would be very helpful. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to pay attention to detail and keep accurate records are essential. Applicants must be recommended by a faculty member and attend an interview with the Associate Director of the Center for Academic Achievement.
