Job Description Through training, the individual in the Peer Leader role will be expected to provide support with designated programs & activities, maintain knowledge of the Office of Multicultural Affairs & Student Inclusion including the services available and daily operations. Individual will be expected to have baseline knowledge of services offered in order to field questions and assist students and office visitors appropriately. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports directly to the Director of Multicultural Affairs & Student Inclusion PRIMARY ROLE: 1. Serve as an Peer Leader for the office. In this role the work study will provide support to the Undergraduate Program Coordinator on programming for: LGBTQ History Month and Black History Month. 2. Manage an Inclusive Practices Project within the office. This project allows for in-depth exploration of critical areas where the institution or office can be more inclusive in their approach to supporting individuals of a particular identity group. 3. Develop understanding and explore application of guiding philosophies and frameworks for the Office of Multicultural Affairs & Student Inclusion in order to implement into work study role and functions. 4. Assist the Director with basic tasks in the office, such as making copies, organizing documents, filing, and basic tasks associated with programs and events. 5. Be present in the office, which is located at 13 Mellen Street. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: 6. Assist with interviewing candidates for internship, assistantship or professional staff roles, when possible. 7. Provide general support and/or referrals for individuals who may have experienced discrimination, bias or some form of marginalization. 8. Participate in any office staff/team meetings and on-going trainings, as requested. 9. Greet students as they arrive in the center. 10. Support and assist students using the computers in the common space as needed. 11. Replace paper in printer and ink cartridge as needed. 12. Strive to create and support a student-centered environment. 13. Embrace and promote the ideals of diversity, inclusion and equity, while also advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences across identities. 14. Strive to embody the elements of our office’s Commitment and Accountability statement in day to day work. 15. Maintain the appearance of the office. 16. Assist the Director with other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: - Currently enrolled in Bachelor’s degree or certificate program program at Lesley University. - Foundational understanding of social justice framework and related issues, trends, and needs, especially pertaining to college students. - Ability to build relationships, assess and balance the needs of various stakeholders - Experience working with individuals and groups with a wide array of identity and life experiences, including gender, sexuality, class, race/ethnicity, disability, culture, religion, etc. - Strong oral and written communication skills, effective presentation and public speaking skills - Ability to foster a supportive and student-centered environment, to balance needs of students with office and institutional objectives, and to identify and proactively respond to problems or emerging student needs. - Ability to advise students, showing good judgment about when to make referrals, set boundaries, and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacy - Organizational skills, including ability to prioritize, to respond to changing needs and circumstances, and to carry out multiple assignments in a timely fashion - Skill in independently researching questions and making appropriate contacts
